The Kherwadi Social Welfare Association was founded in 1928 by Late Shri. B.G. Kher, the first Premier of the then Bombay Presidency.
This was started with the aim of improving the living conditions of the 100 odd
families who had settled in the marshes of Bandra East. Then 1998 saw a major strategic
shift in the operations of KSWA with the arrival of Mr. Kishore Kher and Mrs. Mrinalini Kher;
looking beyond their traditional mission of service to the local community in and around Bandra East.
This was the time KSWA started the Yuva Parivartan movement. This movement was started to help the
unmotivated school dropouts become economically independent by imparting livelihood skills to them.
The movement was formally launched in the year 2003 by the then President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
The main objective of Yuva Parivartan was to work with the communities to mobilize youth and provide
livelihood training to enable more and more youth to be financially independent and productive in life.
We at Yuva Parivartan offer different vocational training Programmes for the underprivileged youth. We offer courses like Electrical Wireman, A/C Refrigeration, Motor Mechanic,
Motor Driving etc. especially for boys and courses like Tailoring and Cutting, Beautician,
Mehendi etc. for the girls. We also offer courses like Retailing, Hospitality, Computers etc.
which are common amongst both boys and girls. For the Rural areas we offer an Integrated Rural
Development Programme known as IRDP. We successfully have Vocational training carried out through
79 centers all over India which includes 27 Out Reach Centers, 27 Mini Centers, 20 Partnership Centers,
and 5 Centers in the Jail. The basic YP livelihood training model consists of 160-180 hours of vocational
training with 60% - 70% component being practical training.
YP has been successful in developing a working, integrated and replicable model in empowering
deprived dropouts and youth to earn a livelihood and become useful citizens.
