Yuva Parivartan (YP) is the flagship movement of Kherwadi Social Welfare Association (KSWA), an NGO founded in 1928. Established in 1998, YP was formally launched by the then President APJ Kalam in 2003.

Over the last 24 years, we have enhanced the employability of more than 1.25 million underprivileged youth and women through our courses. Our content, structure, flexibility of timings, practical training and content delivery are tailor-made to help our students earn a livelihood. Short and effective, our courses help students discover the benefits of their time with us in 15-90 days.

Our wide network of field counselors, community leaders, trainers, and connections with local livelihood providers, coupled with technology enables us to mobilize students helping them earn with stability.

Our identified areas of work:

How we make a difference across India?

By focusing on three levels of sustainability:

Student Sustainability

With technical vocational skills, exposure visits and guest lectures, our students get a first-hand experience of the work culture. Since our students often come from underprivileged backgrounds, modules like Soch Ka Parivartan (Attitude Transformation) and regular counselling sessions help them overcome real world challenges. Our digital, financial literacy and entrepreneurship modules help create multiple earning members, improve health and increase stability in households. We ensure our students can reach out to us whenever they need support.

Program Sustainability

Our strong links with communities ensure continuity. We have students come in by reference, and businesses approach our centers whenever there is a need. This, along with regular mobilizations, ensure a steady stream of students at the center. “Yuva Mitras” or “Friends of YP” are created in communities, who then tap into their own networks to create awareness about the programme. Yuva Parivartan also identifies, trains and monitors “like-minded” community members / students / local stores to run the YP model of livelihood training, thus sustaining the center beyond the sponsor’s support after 36 – 48 months.

Ecosystem Sustainability

We believe in creating a complete ecosystem of livelihood-based trainers. Our Livelihood Development Centres, present in small towns/peri-urban locations, cater to the youth living within a 10 to 15 km radius. These centres are credited to being our hubs and territorial headquarters. Our spoke networks are the Community Centres & Rural Camps  set up within a radius of 50 – 100 km of the territorial headquarters. Beyond these, we conduct our livelihood training with the help of like-minded partners. Thus creating an effective ecosystems across talukas and districts.

Some appreciation

The uniqueness of the Yuva Parivartan program is its ability to address the three most important paradoxes confronting the Livelihoods space in the Country today- where 80% of the youth, who do not complete school receive only 20% of the attention; where 90% jobs are in the..

I cannot explain how impressed I am that an organization is offering real, practical quality development and training for drop - outs. This model could treble Indian growth as well as improving the social model.
